Labour Law

Labor law (also known as employment law) governs the rights and duties between workers and employers. It covers a wide range of topics related to workplace conditions, including wages, working hours, benefits, health and safety, discrimination, and the rights of employees to unionize.

Employment Contracts: Defines the terms of employment, including job duties, pay, and benefits. Contracts can be written or implied through actions, company policies, or oral agreements.

Minimum Wage: Sets the lowest hourly wage that employers can legally pay their workers. Many countries also have laws governing overtime pay, ensuring that employees are compensated at a higher rate for working beyond standard hours.

Working Hours and Overtime: Laws often cap the number of hours employees can work per week and dictate when overtime pay is required. This is important to prevent exploitation through excessively long working hours.

Health and Safety: Ensures that employers provide a safe working environment. This includes compliance with occupational health standards and providing adequate safety measures for workers.

Discrimination and Equal Opportunity: Prohibits employment discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, disability, or other protected characteristics. It also ensures equal pay for equal work, addressing the gender pay gap and other forms of discrimination.
