Civil Law
Civil law is a branch of law that deals with disputes between private individuals or organizations. Unlike criminal law, which involves crimes against the state, civil law focuses on resolving conflicts, ensuring compensation, and enforcing contracts. It is based on codified statutes and laws rather than precedent (in contrast to common law systems).
Disputes Between Private Parties: Civil law governs relationships between individuals, businesses, or other entities. It covers situations where one party seeks compensation or enforcement of a right due to harm, loss, or breach of agreement by another party.
Burden of Proof: In civil cases, the burden of proof is "on the balance of probabilities" or "preponderance of evidence," meaning it is more likely than not that the claim is true. This is lower than the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard used in criminal law.
